Simple, careful and accurate anti-spam systems

Included in all our website hosting or email hosting accounts, are the anti-spam tools Spam Assassin and BoxTrapper. Setup correctly, these tools will allow you to drastically reduce your spam mail, while never deleting any legit email messages. By default, both systems are disabled and all the emails sent to our server for your email account, are delivered to your box. This can be changed from the 'Mail' section of your hosting control panel.

Spam Assassin attempts to identify spam emails as our server receives them and rates them according to many different features that often identify spam. Certain features (such as coming from a server that sends out spam) are given different scores to others that have more chance of being legit email (such as if the subject line begins with 'Buy'). Once detected, it is possible to setup a mail filter to automatically delete them. Alternatively they can be sent to a different email box, that you can look through to see if any legit emails were incorrectly identified.

The BoxTrapper system has a different method of dealing with spam, though can work well in combination with a Spam Assassin approach. By default, BoxTrapper treats every email address as a spam source. No emails will be delivered except the emails sent by addresses white listed on your account. Whenever an address that has not yet been white listed sends you an email, BoxTrapper replies with an email asking the sender to reply to the email. If the sender was legit, replying is not an issue and once he has replied once, he will be added to the white list and all future emails would get through without chance of being detected by spam.

When a spam source sends an email to BoxTrapper, it gets caught, as the email address is not listed on the address white list. The spam source is sent an email to verify they are a legit source but since many of the spam sources do not check the email accounts the spam is sent from, the challenge is never completed and the email will not be delivered to your box.

It is possible to set up Spam Assassin on your main account, and any emails detected as probable by Spam Assassin to be sent to a Box Trapper box. This will automatically send you any emails Spam Assassin lets through (very few spam), while any it blocks, BoxTrapper will allow the sender a chance to prove it was not from a spam source.
