Since it’s launch to the South African public in March 2010 SnapBill, Lusion Technologies online billing and service provisioning system, has gone from strength to strength. Like SnapBill many online billing systems claim to be easy to use, affordable and fully brandable, but as we all know the proof is in the pudding.

Before setting up your website you need to ask yourself whether the site will be making use of international or local hosting. International hosting has usually won the argument in the past with cheaper packages offering more bandwidth, but you may be pleasantly surprised with recent developments in the local hosting industry. Maybe even enough to bring out your ‘proud South African’ streak and motivate you to move your website’s hosting to a local server. Join me as I have a look into what the South African web hosting market can offer you and why it may be a good time to start hosting at home.

It is essential to identify your businesses’ needs before making a choice between hosting locally or internationally. Identifying your needs will ensure that you choose a hosting solution that not only provides your website with a home on the internet, but will encourage your business to grow and flourish. I have broken down a few key points for you to consider when pondering the benefits of hosting locally.

A Question of Bandwidth

One of the main differences between local and international hosting is the amount of bandwidth you receive. South African hosting has traditionally left users with less bandwidth at their disposal – when compared to international hosting packages of the same price. South Africa has less bandwidth capacity than most other countries which is worsened by the fact that the industry was monopolized by large telecommunications companies in its ‘formative years’. Therefore higher prices have always seemed to be the norm.

In late 2004 claims were made that prices offered by South African ISP’s were as high as 286% and 480% more expensive than a comparable offering from an Egyptian ISP! Reassuringly times have changed. Due to a more competitive market prices seem to be decreasing and South African consumers can look forward to more bandwidth for their buck in years to come.

The Need for Speed

This allows local hosting to really shine. Hosting your website in South Africa means that it runs about 3 times faster than if the site is hosted internationally. A definite win for South African web hosting! The increase in speed when hosting locally as opposed to international hosting can be attributed to the unfortunate telecommunication bottle-neck we have in South Africa and not to the inferiority of international servers (that are usually even faster than local servers). The slow line speeds and expensive packages offered by Telkom also mean international pages are served slower than locally hosted pages. Hosting locally therefore means having a website that loads considerably faster for local users – allowing visitors to your site to browse with greater ease. Increasing visitor satisfaction.

Quality Support

Hosting locally can also increase your access to and the quality of support. Many international hosting companies offer support services for their South African clients, but lack the local knowledge to provide a truly exceptional support service. Using a reputable local company to host on a South African server means you have easier access to quality support. Most South African hosting companies provide 24/7/365 telephone and/or email support and several cite turnaround times for support queries as 1 hour.

More Uptime for your Target Market

Do you want to host a website aimed at the South African market? Using a South African server to host your website will allow optimum access for South African users. Preferential loading times and higher server uptime will ensure that your website functions best for South African users. Greater server uptime for locally hosted websites is not a result of shortcomings on the side of international server, but instead a direct result of the operation of South African ISP’s. Local ISP’s loose their link to international servers more frequently and with greater ease than to local servers. Thus it stands to reason that if your target market consists of South Africans – rather than international users – a locally hosted site will ensure optimum access to them.

Should you?

Considering whether to host your website on a South African server as opposed to an international server still remains a choice that we all have to ponder at some stage. And it would seem that the outcome of this competition is becoming less of a one horse race. With the South African ISP market getting more competitive and the days of exorbitant bandwidth pricing becoming a thing of the past it would seem that South African hosting is turning into a viable option.

Hosting locally on a South African server will ensure more uptime for your website, preferential loading time and faster browsing for South African visitors, greater access to trusted support and optimum access for your target market. Hosting your website in South Africa also holds benefits with regards to Search Engine Optimization as search engines such as Google will determine their search results based on your websites locale. Could now be a good time to reassess your website hosting and make the switch?

Links

For local hosting I recommend you take a look at Lusion Technologies. Lusion is a South African web hosting company that offers great deals on local hosting packages.

First National Bank (FNB) recently released PayPal for South Africa after closing an exclusive deal with the international payment gateway.
SnapBill, Lusion Technologies’ free online, white label, billing and service provisioning system will be among the first South African online billing systems to seamlessly integrate PayPal, offering all SnapBill users another safe, easy way to pay and get paid online.

The Lusion Technologies team announced the exciting news hours after FNB confirmed their partnership with PayPal. South African blogs and forums have been buzzing since First National Bank confirmed the rumors of an exclusive (for now anyway) partnership earlier this week, as this would now allow South African PayPal users to not only pay online, but withdraw payments they have received through PayPal via their qualifying FNB personal or business current accounts.

PayPal offers online users a secure service through which to engage in online transactions, allowing users to send and receive funds from other users in any participant PayPal country. PayPal claims the platform offers a safer, easier way to pay and get paid online. The service allows anyone to pay in the way they prefer, including via credit cards, bank accounts, buyer credit or account balances, without sharing financial information like your credit card or bank account number.

Who can use this service?

The fully integrated PayPal facility will be available to all registered SnapBill users – free and premium account holders – who have a registered South African PayPal account and bank with FNB (visit the FNB website to view their conditions). All SnapBill users will be able to select PayPal as a payment method for their SnapBill generated invoices along side the current EFT or credit card payment options.

To enable PayPal as a payment option all SnapBill users need do is go to Payment under their Setup menu, enter their PayPal user ID and click enable. As simple as that! They will then be able to accept and make payments on or for any SnapBill generated invoices via PayPal.

What this will mean for the SnapBill user?

More than 200 million people in 190 countries and regions trust and use PayPal to send and receive money. With the integration of PayPal into the SnapBill system you can now accept payments from any PayPal user in any country or any invoice or service billed via SnapBill. Getting your SnapBill invoices paid has never been so easy!

Seamless SnapBill/PayPal integrating is set to be launched on the 1st of April 2010 - no April fools joke!

Welcome to SnapBill!

We have compiled a QuickTour of all of SnapBill’s features to help you get better acquainted with what our online billing system can do for you. Take the tour below or visit the SnapBill website to learn more about this powerful system.

What is SnapBill?

SnapBill is a free online, white label, billing and service provisioning system that you can customise to fully suit your own brand, manage clients and invoices, process payments and efficiently automate all your billing requirements.

SnapBill offers a comprehensive mix of billing and client management features. It is automated, secure, accessible and has a powerful built in service provisioning functionality. SnapBill can be used by anyone, anywhere in the world, from any web enabled device and at any time. Take the SnapBill QuickTour below to explore its features and find out what SnapBill can do for you!

What can SnapBill do?

Quick Quotations and Invoices, Automated Charges and Powerful Recurring Billing

Use SnapBill to quickly and easily draw up quotations for your clients. Quotations are sent via email and may then either be accepted or rejected by your client. If accepted an invoice will automatically be generated and sent out. If there is a credit card present on your clients account then they will also be automatically billed. Your SnapBill account is then credited with the funds.

You may add any charge to a clients account and set the charge to recur for any period of time. This is the power and flexibility of SnapBill. When your bill date arrives SnapBill automatically generates and sends out your invoices. SnapBill groups charges, set to recur on the same date, and composes a single invoice which is sent out to your client.

Automated Statements, Payment Reminders and Late Payment Notices

Let SnapBill alert, remind and warn your clients of funds due. Upon processing or receving payment SnapBill will automatically send out statements and payment processed notices. If a client is outstanding on their payments SnapBill can warn them of account suspensions or terminations.

You may resend invoices and statements as many times as you wish and even set multiple recipients. Add a billing contact to your client and SnapBill will automatically direct any billing correspondence to this contact.

Collect Payments from Clients, No Gateway Needed

Say goodbye to third party payment gateways. SnapBill is your billing and payment gateway solution all in one. With extremely competitive rates you cannot go wrong. Now you can accept Visa and Mastercard payments (American Express and Diners Club coming soon) directly from your clients without any recurring monthly or annual gateway fees.

SnapBill charges R2 + 8% per transaction (rate reduction soon) and credits the collected funds directly to your account. Your clients will clearly see the charge as *SNAPBILL* on their statements. SnapBill even does fraud checking on your client before we change your clients account state from new to active. If we find anything out of place we will inform you before proceeding.

Manage Clients and Keep Track of Communication

SnapBill allows your to easily manage your client personal information. Add contacts to client accounts or send emails directly from within SnapBill. All correspondence sent from SnapBill to clients is logged and accessible under a clients account. This makes it easy to determine what message a client has been sent as well as view the historical responses.

Use SnapBill to email all your clients at once. Email sent from SnapBill appears to come from your own email addresses. SnapBill makes managing client communication easy and organised.

Provision Custom Services, Set Packages and Pricing and Customise Database Fields

The power of SnapBill lies in the ability for you to add your own custom services to the system. These services are customisable by adding packages, pricing and by altering the payment term or even the custom fields stored in the database. Any service added to the SnapBill system is immediately available to be ordered online by your clients.

Custom services are added automatically to your sign up form and your billing management center (so clients may order them online) and may be added manually to any client account within SnapBill. The client will then instantly and automatically be billed for the new service on their account.

Fully White-Label and Beautifully Brandable

Applying your business branding to SnapBill is easy and intuitive. Set your primary business colours and upload your company logo using the advanced branding feature. This branding configuration is automatically applied to quotations, invoices, statements and notices. Even your sign up form and billing management center are automatically branded to your business quickly and easily by setting just a few values.

Please note: free account members will have a link present at the bottom of each quotation, invoice and statement which informs the viewer that SnapBill was responsible for generating it. If you wish to remove this link then please sign up for a “Premium” account.

Automatically Generated Sign Up Forms and Billing Management Center

SnapBill is aimed at users providing online services and because of this the SnapBill system provides you with an automatically generated sign up form (located at http://username.snapbill.com/signup) which you may direct your new or existing clients to if they wish to sign up for any of your services. These are services that you add to SnapBill and set your pricing for. Once a client signs up via your sign up form SnapBill will automatically generate an invoice and send it to them. If the client signed up with a credit card SnapBill will also bill them for you.

Existing clients may login to the billing management center (located at http://username.snapbill.com/) and view both their outstanding and paid invoices as well as the services they are currently signed up for. They may set payment methods as well as add or remove credit cards on their account. Existing clients may also use the billing management center to order and pay for any of your services online.

Useful Statistics, Graphs and Reports

With Valentines day right around the corner many of you love birds out there may be looking for the perfect gift for your special someone. As it is said, it is best to avoid cliches and go for an original gift that will leave your partner feeling special due to the thought and effort you put into acquiring said gift. Although this is easier said than done!

Coming up with an original idea to bowl your partner over with is not always the easiest thing to do. And when you are facing the challenge of purchasing a gift for someone who already has everything, the task becomes that much more difficult.

This is where Lusion Technologies has decided to step in. We have resolved to save you hours of trawling through shopping malls and countless Google searches for ‘ unique gift ideas’ by coming up with the perfect, original gift for your valentine… web hosting!

‘Web hosting?’ you may ask with a puzzled look on your face. Oh, yes! Web hosting!

Now, before you write this article off as a shameless ploy to capitalize on the weary valentines day consumer’s need to purchase to affirm their love and commitment, we would like to explain exactly how our web hosting packages can really benefit you and your relationship.

Web hosting is the perfect gift due to its originality. You partner will be expecting the traditional chocolates, flowers, jewelry and plush stuffed teddy bears – instead you will astound them with your boundless creativity when you present them with a Lusion Technologies web hosting package as their valentines day gift. This is the perfect gift to showcase your originality, spontaneity and sense of humor.

Secondly, our web hosting packages offer you choice. There is a web hosting package to suit anyone’s needs. Lusion Technologies takes pride in providing you with the absolute best web hosting solutions for your personal and commercial web needs. Our packages are designed to suit anyone’s pocket and provide a full range of quality functions to suit your loved ones unique needs.

Lusion Technologies has worked hard to ensure the affordability of its web hosting packages. No longer will you have to fork over shovel-fulls of cash for an overpriced, disappointing gift. Lusion has ensured that its web hosting provides excellent value for money, leaving you and your partner completely satisfied. And if our prices aren’t low enough for you already, you are going to love our insane 40% off summer special. This means you will receive 40% off your first order, making your choice of web hosting an even more satisfactory and affordable gift.

Lastly, web hosting, Lusion style, shows that you care. Lusion Technologies has made it our mission to ensure your website has the safest possible home on the internet. Let your loved one know exactly how much you care for them by entrusting their online home to the capable, reliable care of Lusion Technologies. Not only do all our web hosting packages come standard with:

99.98% uptime guaranteed

Free reliable telephone and email support – 24/7/365

User-friendly cPanel admin

Support for PHP4 and PHP5, Ruby on Rails, MySQL and PostgreSQL

Comprehensive backups made at 4 hourly intervals to ensure your data is safe and accessible even if your site is hacked or data is deleted.

Includes Fantastico De Luxe – a commercial script library that automates the installation of web applications to your website. Now you can easily install Fantastico-supported applications like web content management systems, shopping cart software, wikis, blogs and photo sharing applications.

But your choice of Lusion Technologies hosting will demonstrate your attention to detail, gentle, kind nature and commitment to providing your partner with only the best that web hosting has to offer.

Web hosting: Is it the perfect valentines day gift? – Well, it is the gift that shows you care, won’t break the bank, showcases your originality, provides you and your partner with custom choices and satisfies your need for reliable support. Web hosting, unlike chocolate, will not make your partner fat. Web hosting, unlike flowers, will not agitate your partners pollen allergy and unlike jewelry, it cannot be stolen.

So the traditional flowers, chocolates, jewelry and plush toys will still rank high on any valentines day wish list, but be original, surprise your loved one with one of Lusion Technologies’ web hosting packages and see what it can do for you!
